Local professional sports teams offer discounts to students

By Megan Sanders, April 22, 2025

Students can get discounted tickets to go see some of their favorite sports teams by using their school email and signing up for team student rush programs.

Some of the local teams that offer discounts for college students are the Los Angeles Galaxy, Los Angeles Kings, Ontario Reign, Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Angels and Los Angeles Clippers

These deals are offered for select games, and students in the program would be notified through their school email or with a text message.

Accounting student Art Velazquez mentioned now that he knows about the sports team student discounts he is likely going to buy tickets to see some of his favorite Los Angeles teams in the future.

“Most students, like myself, we’re broke or living paycheck to paycheck from a part time job, so yes it’s beneficial,” Velazquez said.

Cal Poly Pomona has teamed up with the Los Angeles Galaxy this season. Students can get $28 off their first two tickets totaling $56 off after using their discount code

Through the LA Kings’ Student Rush program, students will receive offers to select regular season games 24 to 48 hours before gameday. Students who signed up for the Kings’ program will be given access to $25 tickets in the upper bowl of the arena.

The Ontario Reign’s College Rush program provides discounted offers to students who sign up for all regular season home games by 10 a.m. on gameday while supplies last.

The Anaheim Ducks’ Student Rush provides college students with offers starting at $15 and might have also VIP and player-hold tickets available for purchase in some cases.

The Rams offer upper-level or standing room only tickets for select preseason and regular season games. Through the Rams’ student program there is a limit of two tickets purchased per student email while supplies last.

The Angels provide student discounts through a site called Student Beans. After students sign up, they will be given the opportunity to buy cheaper tickets to select games.

The Clippers offer students last-minute discounted tickets, special group rates and in some cases, transportation from campus.

Computer science student Paige Moore, who is also a distance runner on the track-and-field team at CPP, said she was surprised so many teams offer discounts to students.

“As college students, we usually don’t make the most money, and we struggle or find loopholes to find discounts to things,” Moore said. “It’s sometimes tough to have a budget for the week or the month, so having discounts for tickets to see a game is actually very nice for someone who would like to see a sports game.”

After enrolling in students rush programs, students will receive notifications about ticket offers, and other teams’ updates.

Environmental biology student Lorenzo Quirante said he wasn’t aware of the student discounts available, but thinks they are nice to have.

“I think this makes it super helpful since I think sports events should be more accessible to keep spirits high, especially in these financially turbulent times,” Quirante said.
