Cal Poly Pomona’s Associated Student Inc. approved its potential $16.4 million budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal years at the Board of Directors meeting April 30.
The budget falls short of the previous year’s $18 million, despite the 3.6% uptick students will see in their ASI tuition fees, indicated by the budget plan. The decrease in funding is primarily caused by the decline in CPP enrollment, according to ASI Treasurer Ivan Flores.
ASI is funded through student fees, and oversees campus recreation, student union and activities, student government, clubs and organizations, food pantry and partial funding for children’s education and care.
Flores explained there will more financial pressure and budget restructuring this year due to the decrease in funds. ASI plans to accept cost recovery from CPP for the Poly Pantry, which will help offset new renovation costs.
Approximately 77% of the budget will be spent on employee salary and benefits.
“We pride ourselves on using student employment, not only to support the mission of ASI but also provide career readiness opportunities right here on campus,” said ASI Treasurer Ivan Flores.
The budget holds major renovations for the Poly Pantry which will be expanded into 1210. New outdoor lighting for the Bronco Student Center, elevator modernization, furniture and equipment replacements will also take place.
In addition to approval of the budget, the Board of Directors have begun to transition out of office, while Resident Student Association senator, Ian Perez, confirmed the new 2026-2027 executive board.
“This kind of experience is very well appreciated and will bring out new perspectives and a stronger board,” said RSA Senator Ian Perez.
Greek Senator Sahil Hotchandani also shared news about the Greek week campaign that raised more than $700 for the Poly Pantry and donated over 1,000 cans of food.
“Hopefully we’ll bring it back next year even bigger,” Hotchandani said.
The ASI Board of Directors are in office till May 31 but tentatively plan to have their last meeting May 7. All students are welcome to attend the meetings, which take place in the England Evans room at 5:30 p.m.
