The start of every academic year is filled with the promise of new: new classes, new professors, new friends, a new Poly Post editorial team and this year even a new Cal Poly Pomona interim president.
I hope that whatever “new” our CPP community experiences in the 2024-2025 academic year is a change for the better.
While statistically, only good things occurring is impossible, it’s another hope of mine that our community remembers that whatever changes happen, we will report on it, and you are not alone. At The Poly Post, we dedicate ourselves to unbiased coverage of university happenings and reporting the truth to the campus community in a timely manner.
As Editor in Chief and News editor, I, Ava Uhlack, will ensure The Poly Post reports on the campus level as well as city, state, national and international events that affect the CPP community. My goal is to keep students, faculty and staff informed through general coverage in tandem with investigative pieces that hold administrators, politicians and others in positions of power to account.
Arts and Culture Editor Connor Lālea Hampton will ensure student life is at the heart of the section and stories from all cultures and identities will be in the spotlight. All are welcome and celebrated here, and we can’t wait to share all that’s happening on campus.
Sports Editor Cesar Rivas will highlight student athletes and their accomplishments out on the field, the court and any other arena where our fellow Broncos may be competing. From riveting recaps across all sports from basketball, soccer, baseball, volleyball and more, this section will supply you with the most up-to-date information on our athletic program.
La Voz and Opinion Editor Ashly Lopez, will provide a voice the Latinx community on campus, which is especially important given a majority of our CPP student community is Latinx. The opinion section will also be a place for freedom of expression for those and to .
Our copyeditors, Elise Ong and Annika Salant, will verify that our writing is up to professional journalistic standards through both fact checking and following AP Style and grammatical conventions.
Digital Managing and Audio Editor Gerardo Sanchez will lead the multimedia sections, ensuring production runs smoothly and assisting with any projects. He will also be responsible for producing podcasts covering everything from advice, music, financial aid, sports and everything in between for the community to enjoy.
Video Editor Ryan Fogg will take a visual approach to story coverage both within articles and on The Poly Post Youtube Channel. The hope is to create video representation across all written sections, allowing for a text to take a backseat and videography to lead.
Photo Editor Megan Sanders ensures all articles have a visual element to give your eyes a break from the text of articles. Photo essays will also be presented to approach a still-form of storytelling bringing stories to life and provide important context, both physical and emotional.
Audience Engagement Editor Dylan Mangahis will be operating The Poly Post social media accounts on Instagram from posts and stories highlighting recent article coverage and reels following student life, news and in-the-moment trends.
Web Editor Lena Moreno will manage The Poly Post website and send out the campus-wide newsletter every Tuesday which will highlight key articles from each respective section for the cycle.
The Poly Pulse Magazine Editor-in-Chief, Bia Machain will craft the magazine over the course of this year to be released at the end of May 2026 covering current events to look back on with articles throughout covering
Our faculty advisor, Dr. Lauren Furey will guide us throughout the year as to how to uphold proper journalistic practice and continue to push us to become stronger writers and advocates for our community.
Furthermore, working alongside our editorial board is The Poly Post marketing team, led by Linda Perez, who will help push the message out about our coverage on campus.
Every Tuesday, there will be new uploads to every section of our website, both written and multimedia, on thepolypost.com.
However, if you prefer to hold what you’re reading, the last Tuesday of each month, we will have print newspapers of our coverage that will be available in the green bins scattered across campus. Depending on the season, they might have themes or even print-exclusive stories, so be sure to check them out.
As a student-run, independent, award-winning publication—with more than 10 awards received from the California College Media Association and the California News Publishers Association this last academic year—we strive to evolve and become stronger, a beacon of truth for all our campus community to look to. We don’t work under the university’s jurisdiction, therefore allowing us to uphold unbiased reporting.
We have a hard-working, capable, and determined team leading the newsroom this year.
