Students share their thoughts on celebrating women during Women’s History Month

Zane Landin | Third-year science, technology and society student

“International Women’s Day is kind of like Valentine’s Day. I feel like we should appreciate women every day the same way we should be romantic to our partner all the time, not just on Valentine’s.”

Ciara Bell | Fourth-year apparel merchandising and management student

“I celebrate women every day. International Women’s Day is just an excuse to celebrate us more. Zendaya, Yara Shahidi, Viola Davis and Oprah are some of the women I look up to.”

Shirley Lin | Fourth-year computer engineering student

“On International Women’s Day you need to remind yourself to not let other people judge you by your gender. If you love math, do math. If you love science, do science. In computer engineering 95 percent of all my class[mates] are men. I have to wear pink sometimes to remind myself of my gender.”

Joe Rico | First-year mechanical engineering student

“I am going to call my mom and say how proud I am of her for breaking stereotypes about women. She’s won motorcycle races and is just generally awesome.”

Jannell Rivera | Fourth-year nutritional science student

“On International Women’s Day and every day I remind myself that women are stronger than people think. I’m a woman, I’ve gone through stuff, I’m not a victim, I am a survivor. Be confident and don’t be scared.”
