As mid-February approaches, so do the university’s music department shows. The music department is set to host three different concerts for students and general audiences in the month of February.
The first show, the Phillip Clarke Memorial Piano Scholarship Fundraiser, will be on Feb. 20.
The second show, the CPP Philharmonic Orchestra, will be on Feb. 26, and the last show, the Songwriters in Concert, will be on Feb. 27.
All three shows will be held in the music department’s Recital Hall at 8 p.m., and ticket prices range from $10 to $15.
Because all three upcoming shows will be played by students, they are currently practicing hard to deliver great performances.
Tom Luer, a professor of saxophone at the school, is one of many instructors who help students prepare for their upcoming shows.
“Music majors have lessons with instructors on their instrument, so often times we’ll help coach them,” Luer said.

Janine Riveire, the director of orchestras and music education advisor, is also another instructor who helps prepare students for their upcoming shows.
By helping put together the CPP Philharmonic Orchestra, Riveire revealed that both students and instructors work hard to prepare for their upcoming shows.
“Students and faculty work very hard to prepare these performances. The students practice individually every day to learn their parts, and then we practice as a group in class for four hours a week,” Riveire said.
Because of all the hard work students put into their performances, both Luer and Riveire hope that people will come out to experience their students’ work.
“They [potential audience members] should come out because music is good for the soul, and they should get enriched by it,” Luer said.
However, tickets for upcoming shows are not always guaranteed.
Teresa Kelly, the music department’s publicist and overseer of box office functions, said because the students who will perform in the upcoming shows have friends and families that come out to support them, some shows might become sold out.
Kelly urged potential audience members to prepare in advance.
“Buy your tickets early,” she said.
Tickets to any of the music department’s upcoming shows are sold at the Dr. Andrew G. Chong Box Office, open weekdays from noon to 1 p.m., and an hour before a show starts, or online on the music department’s website.
