Lorena Márquez | PolyTransfer coordinator
“So I actually live in Pomona so my drive only takes about 15 minutes. Here’s the catch though, because I know the area of Pomona I actually know a secret way through the streets to get to campus without having to deal with morning rush hour. I don’t want to get stuck at the Kellogg exit off the 10, the traffic getting off the freeway is awful.”
Alexander Herrera | Third-year history student
“I commute from Chino every day. My drive to school takes me about 30 minutes while my drive home takes me around 25 minutes because I usually leave campus really late at night past 11 p.m.”
Janette Arellano | Second-year theater student
“I come to campus from Fontana. It takes me between 40 to 50 minutes to get to campus in the morning without traffic and if I hit traffic it will take me about an hour to get here. My drive to campus used to be shorter since I lived in Ontario, but I moved to Fontana a little over six months ago so my commute is a bit longer than before.”
Marco Arias | Second-year physics student
“I’m from Lake Elsinore, which is where my mom lives but during the week I stay in San Bernardino and it can take from an hour to an hour and a half in the morning because it’s rush hour and when I leave during the night, my commute will be around 45 minutes.”
Mariam Ruiz | Third-year sociology student
“I drive all the way from Hawthorne on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I come in very early in the morning so it takes about 40 to 45 minutes without traffic and when I hit traffic, it will take me about an hour and 15 minutes especially when I am driving home in the evenings.”
Karina Mirzaian | Second-year theater student
“I commute from Claremont, where I live with three of my sorority sisters. It takes about 10 minutes to get to school on the freeway because the exit is right before all the people trying to go to work in L.A. so I don’t experience the morning rush hour, thankfully. When I am going back home from school, it takes about 35 to 40 minutes with traffic. No matter the time of the day, it takes a long time to get back to Claremont because of all the L.A. traffic going that way.”
Vannessa Poveda | Theater costume shop supervisor
“My drive doesn’t take too long because I come from Montclair. I would say that it takes me 15 minutes to get here if I get on the freeway and I usually leave campus in the late afternoon so it takes me about 30 minutes to get home because it’s rush hour.”
Joanne Van Boxtel | CEIS program coordinator and professor
“I carpool all the way from Long Beach and without traffic it takes us about an hour and a half and if there’s heavy traffic, it can take us up to two hours. It can really depend on the traffic, and coming from somewhere far away can get difficult.”
Cristina Runnalls | Mathematics and statistics assistant professor
“Well I come from northeast Upland and if I drive to campus without traffic, I take about 30 minutes and if there is traffic, it’ll take me longer, about 15 to 20 minutes longer. So with traffic, I’ll get here in 45 to 50 minutes and you never know how the traffic will be sometimes.”
Roxanne Snow | Fifth-year English student
“I drive from Murrieta and it takes me about 57 minutes to get to campus. I don’t drive during rush hour so I don’t experience traffic on my way to campus and going back home in the evenings.”
