The shooter who shot and killed Christian Ramirez, 19, and injured five more at an off-campus party in Pomona Sept. 22, 2023, is still at large.

According to a KTLA article published Jan. 24, a $10,000 reward was announced by city officials for any information regarding the suspect that leads to their arrest. The Pomona Police Department is leading the investigation and released no further details of the incident.

From a previous Poly Post story, it was reported the Pomona Police Department received a call at 10:45 p.m. about a shooting at a party of 200 plus students at a warehouse in Pomona. Cal Poly Pomona students attended along with students from various other schools in the area.

CPP President Soraya M. Coley addressed the campus community in a statement informing that of the five injured, some CPP students were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. It is unknown how many of the victims were CPP students.

According to CPP Chief of Police Linh Dinh, in response to the incident, CPP offered students accommodations with their class schedules and provided resources to the Care Center and Counseling and Psychological Services.

He mentioned even though this happened off-campus, it still impacted the campus community. The University Police Department sent out messages, along with Coley’s statement, to clear up details.
“This did occur in Pomona, the city of Pomona proper, miles away from where we work, but nevertheless, it does impact us and our community,” said Dinh.

If students are planning to go out, Dinh advised going with people they are familiar with and to create a plan on how to get home by using a designated driver or ensuring access to rideshares. Students should also be aware of their surroundings by knowing where exits are and keeping an eye on their drink.

“We all kind of have a sixth sense, if something doesn’t seem right or feel right, then we should back away from that situation,” Dinh said.

If any students are affected by the incident, Dinh recommends reaching resources on campus such as CAPS and the Care Center. CAPS can be reached by phone at (909) 869-3220 or by emailing caps@cpp.edu. The Care Center can be reached by phone at (909) 869-5071 or by emailing carecenter@cpp.edu.

Should anyone know any information it can be reported to the Pomona Police Department at (909)-620-2085 or anonymously at (800)-222-TIPS(8477).
