By Ashanti Velez, February 3, 2026

Guard Demarreya Lewis-Cooper reached 1,000 career collegiate points Jan. 17 in Cal Poly Pomona’s win against Cal State San Bernadino 68-60.

Lewis-Cooper has totaled 488 points in the CPP uniform so far and scored 512 points from his time at Yuba College prior to joining the Broncos. Of those, 203 points are from this season, where Lewis-Cooper averages 32.1 minutes per game.

He reached his first 1,000 career points at Enterprise High School Jan. 21. 2022, where he was the sixth boys’ basketball player in school history to reach the mark. Before Lewis-Cooper CPP’s former women’s guard Kalaya Buggs reached the 1,000-career point milestonein March 2025, guard Phoenix Shackelford played for the men’s basketball team in Jan. 2022 and became the 17th member of the 1,000point club, making Lewis-Cooper the 19th overall.

Coming from a family where everyone plays basketball, Lewis-Cooper grew up surrounded by the sport and was inspired by his family members who were closest to him, including his older sister Ravien Lewis-Cooper who was also a 1,000-career point player for the girls’ Enterprise high school basketball team. Lewis-Cooper said their passion and dedication are what first drew him to play basketball and continue to fuel his drive today.

“My family, God, and the people that support me have helped me get to this point in my career,” Lewis-Cooper said. “My reason why I started and the reason why I continue today is family and knowing the work I put into it, it is a constant motivation to stay consistent and push through tough games.”

With the Broncos, Lewis-Cooper is a key contributor known for his efficiency with a high shooting percentage from both the field and beyond the arc according to CCAA.

He has also earned several honors and awards throughout his career at CPP, including All-California Collegiate Athletic Association second team in 2025, 2024-2025 CPP Athletics Male Newcomer of the Year, and CCAA Player of the week in 2025.

According to Bronco Athletics Lewis-Cooper has been playing CPP men’s basketball for two years and has started in every game since joining the Broncos, helping lead on both sides of the court and scoring for the team.

“My reaction when Demarreya reached 1,000 career points was, ‘Damn, that’s a lot of points, but I wasn’t really surprised because I knew how good he was,” guard Anthony Orji said. “This is a result of all his hard work, his experience, and putting in a lot of hours into the gym and a lot of time learning and growing. So, it really is just a reflection of it.”

Guard Zach Broadous said Lewis-Cooper is doing the right thing and continuing down the right path, highlighted through his recent milestone in surpassing 1,000 career points. Broadous added that building chemistry with Lewis-Cooper has helped them to trust each other and allows them to make the right plays.

“He definitely makes the game easier for everybody,” Broadous said. “His ability to score and look for others is a key part of his game and something that always elevates the team. His basketball IQ is great. I think he’s one of the smartest players on the court, and being able to share some of that knowledge with other players helps everyone as well.”

Broncos stand at 10-9 overall and 5-8 in CCAA play. Despite their recent loss against Cal State East Bay, the Broncos hope to keep up their momentum when they return home Jan. 31 to host San Francisco State following the Green and Gold Block Party.

“I’m most excited to see him close out the season and just see him pull out more wins for us, as we really need it right now,” Orji said. “And I’m also excited to see what other awards he’s going to get, what other accomplishments he’s going to get, and I don’t know, maybe after this year too, what other opportunities he’ll go into.”
