CPP volleyball sets 17-0 record with sweep over Dominguez Hills

By Benjamin Grover, November 25, 2025

Cal Poly Pomona’s volleyball team set a school record of 17-0 conference start in a three-set sweep victory over Cal State Domiguez Hills Nov. 13.

The Broncos entered the game 16-0, previously tying last season’s record-setting conference start. This year a combination of fresh faces and veterans proved to be the winning advantage.

Both outside hitters Charlotte Koerber and Elle Walker showed dominance at the net, each recording 14 kills and combined for 32.5 of the team’s 60 points. Koerber also played a big part defensively, recording nine digs and two blocked shots.

“I really just focus on one thing at a time,” Koerber said. “I try to do one block of the game at a time and never rush things.”

Setter Kacie Caoili continued her hot-streak, recording 33 assists and extending her steak of more than 30 assists in eight of her last nine games.

“It feels great,” Caoili said. “They always give so much energy back to me. When they give great energy, it adds to our team, adds to our momentum, and it shows in our record.”

Along with Caoili, defensive specialist and libero Kaden Young recorded a total of 32 digs and 37 assists against the Toros. Caoili and Young also combined for 22 of their 37 assists to both Koerber and Walker over the three sets.

“I feel honored that they trust me and set me the ball all the time,” Koerber said. “Even if I don’t get the kill or error, they still go back to me, which shows they have the trust in me to get the kill.”

Multiple kills from Walker, Koerber and middle blocker Alexia Athans put the Broncos up 13-5 in the first set. The Broncos then won nine out of 13 serves against the Toros, highlighted by Walker scoring three consecutive kills, eventually winning the set 25-13.

The Broncos started the second set  19-10, highlighted by three consecutive kills from Koerber, five kills and two blocks from Walker, as well as a kill and a block from Athans.

However, the Toros fought back and cut the Broncos to lead 20-17 with a collection of kills and attacking errors for the Broncos. Koerber would then take back the Broncos’ control of the set, scoring two kills and an ace to close out the set 25-19.

The Toros trailed the Broncos by one or two points multiple times in the third set, due mostly to the nine attacking errors committed by the Broncos.

Ultimately, the Broncos prevailed with kills from Athans and outside and middle blocker Addi Knight, winning the game 25-22.

The Broncos’ final record sits at 17-1 after losing to Stanislaus State Nov. 15 at home 3-2. This year’s conference finish ties last year’s record as the best in program history.

The Broncos now await the NCAA selection show to see if their season will continue.

The Broncos currently sit eighth in the NCAA west rankings. If their rank holds, their season will continue. If not, their season will end.
