Women’s soccer lost to the Chico State Wildcats Friday night 3-1 after taking a 1-0 lead.
The Broncos started off strong in the first five minutes of the game.
The Broncos stopped the Wildcats from scoring an opening goal by pressuring the Wildcats. The team also had a lot of energy and came out strong early in the game.
“We had a lot of energy in the first 15 minutes of the game and a lot of confidents starting off in the game” said senior forward Daisy Duran.
Sophomore forward Amanda Duran gave the Broncos the lead in the 15th minute off an assist from Daisy Duran.
The goal was shot from the far side of the 18-yard box and was able to beat the goalkeeper for a goal.
Later on, the Broncos had a chance to score on a corner kick and missed a chance take a 2-0 lead.
Just a little over the 25-minute mark, the Wildcats scored against the Broncos tying up the score 1-1. The goal was a punched corner high in the air, and the ball ping ponged before Nicole Marquez finished at the back post.
In the 36th minute, the Wildcats took a 2-1 lead.
The ball went in after a header by Sarah Emigh at the near post off a corner kick by Jordan Doukaki The Broncos came out the half aggressive looking to score early on.
CPP had a couple of chances to score early.
The score was still close with 20 minutes left.
The Wildcats scored on an own goal in the 74th minute.
A free kick from Doukakis bounced in the box and off a CPP defender to secure Chico State’s 3-1 win.
“The ball did not bounce our way tonight, but we need to focus on our defense and discipline,” said head coach Jay Mason.
“We just have to forget about this game and continue on and be ready for this next game,” said Amanda Duran.
CPP lost their second game on the bounce on Sunday falling 1-0 to Stanislaus State thanks to a second half goal by Shawna McLaughlin.
The Broncos mustered 15 shots in the game but only three of those were on goal.
After a scoreless first half, Stanislaus State took the lead on a corner kick.
Jenna Zuniga played the ball into the box where Bella Rivera’s header hit the post.
McLaughlin was in the right place at the right time to finish the rebound.
CPP returns to action this Friday on the road against Cal State San Bernardino.
The Broncos end the weekend 5-4-1 in league and 9-5-1 overall.
