The Broncos competed in the NCAA Division II National Track and Field Championships hosted by the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida this weekend.
On the women’s side of the team, senior Lizette Huerta excelled on the track. Huerta participated in the 1,500-meter race at the NCAA Division II National Championships and earned fourth place with a time 4:24.64. Consequently, Huerta accomplished All American honors. Huerta is the seventh female Bronco to obtain All American Honors for the 1500-meter race event.
Another fellow Bronco who was also in action was senior Tiffany Tate. Tate excelled in the javelin, earning 16th place with a throw of 145-1. Her strong performance throughout the season was recognized, as she was awarded the CPP Female Athlete of the Year award on Monday during the Broncos’ Evening of Excellence banquet.
During the men’s events, senior Francisco Gomez finished with a time of 14:29.51 in the 5,000-meter event. Gomez finished in 10th place, which awarded him All American honors.
Junior Mark Huizar was just a few seconds shy of Gomez. Huizar crossed the line with a time of 14:44.90, putting him in 15th place.. Along with Gomez , Huizar was awarded All American honors during the 2015 cross country season.
Senior Rodger Mantor competed in the pole vault. Although Mantor did not start off with a strong performance this weekend he was able to lead the Broncos to new heights as he acquired many personal bests.
