CPP defeated Cal State San Bernardino 52-45 on Thursday and fell to UC San Diego 50-64 on Saturday.
The Broncos now hold an overall record of 7-13 and a California Collegiate Athletic Association record of 5-8.
On Thursday against the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes, the Broncos came out aggressive and jumped out to an early lead after a 16-5 run.
The Coyotes retaliated in the second quarter by outscoring the Broncos 18-7, which sent the game into halftime with the score tied at 23.
Both teams came out aggressive in the second quarter, with the Broncos scoring 12 and the Coyotes scoring 10. As soon as CPP scored, the Coyotes scored right back, but the Broncos managed to gain a two-point gap lead ahead of the Coyotes.
In the last quarter of the game, the Broncos made aggressive plays and plowed through the Coyote’s defense. The Broncos scored 17 points in the fourth to finish out the game with the win.
The Broncos finished with five blocks, a free throw percentage of 70.4 and 39 rebounds. Cal State San Bernardino had four blocks, a free throw percentage of 70.6 and 32 rebounds.
Head Coach Danelle Bishop spoke a little about the team after the victory against the Coyotes.
“We actually stuck together, had leadership out on the floor, focused on the next play and [got] stops,” said Bishop. “I thought that we really looked like a team.”
Bishop also spoke about the then-upcoming game against the UC San Diego Tritons.
“They’re a really good team [that] shoot the ball well,” said Bishop. “It’s going to be a tough matchup, but I think if we can stay together as a team, I think we can be really competitive.”
But on Saturday the Broncos lost against the Tritons by a score of 64-50.
The Broncos were opened up by an aggressive UC San Diego team in the first quarter, as the Tritons jumped out to a three-point lead in the first quarter.
The second quarter showed both teams battle for the lead, finishing the quarter with the Broncos scoring 10 points and the Tritons scoring 11. The first half ended with the score at 29-25 in the Tritons favor.
In the beginning of the second half, both teams battled back and fourth, as the Broncos scored 15 in the third quarter and the Tritons scored 16.
In the fourth quarter, the Broncos put up a strong fight against UC San Diego, but the Tritons outscored the Broncos 19-10 to finish out the game.
The Broncos finished the game with three blocks, a free throw percentage of 50 percent and 46 rebounds. The Tritons had three blocks, a free throw percentage of 75 and 38 rebounds.
