Cross country finishes 9th at nationals

The Cal Poly Pomona men’s cross country traveled to Joplin, Missouri for the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships on Saturday, where the Broncos excelled and placed ninth in the competition on the backs of junior runner Mark Huizar and senior runner Francisco Gomez.

The ninth place finish marked the second time in three seasons CPP finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships.

Huizar’s and Gomez’s strong performances earned them All-American honors. Huizar posted a time of 30:25.00 in the 10K race, finishing 35th overall.

Gomez posted a time of 30:29.60 in the 10K race, finishing 40th overall in the race of 246 runners.

Sophomore runner Ruben Dominguez also helped the Broncos, securing a time of 31:15.80. Along with Ruben Dominguez, junior Teague Senninger finished with a time of 31:34.30.

Rounding out the Broncos competing were sophomore Christian Rodriguez, senior John Dominguez and freshman Devon Reed.

Rodriguez finished with a time of 31:41.80, John Dominguez finished with a time of 32:28.00 and Reed finished with a time of 32:59.50.

Two years ago, the Broncos finished eighth at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships and then placed 16th during the 2014 run.
