After defeating Cal State East Bay 2-0 Friday to take their
winning streak to three, the Broncos return home 1-1 after a 1-0
loss on Sunday to UC San Diego ending hopes of making the
playoffs.

“We won on Friday and that was our third game in a row of
winning,” said Bronco head coach Isabelle Harvey.

Broncos are 9-9 overall and 5-9 in CCAA and will complete the
2009 season with two games against Cal State San Bernardino on Oct.
30 away and Nov. 1 at home.

The Broncos’ best chance of the opening half took place in the
35th minute when sophomore forward Valerie Strawn fired a shot
toward the net.

Tritons’ Kristin Armstrong made the initial stop, but the ball
bounced away.

Sophomore forward Justine Barclay charged and lined up for a
possible shot, but Armstrong pounced on the ball.

“I felt the first half we were not playing as well as we should
have,” said Coach Harvey.

The only goal of the game was scored by Tritons’ Johnson to
which attempted a corner kick from the right side, assisted by
Shelby Wong, to which bounced off the inside of the left post and
rolled to the back of the net.

In the 43rd minute, Strawn controlled the ball, but her shot
came off her foot too straight and Tritons’ Armstrong had her third
and final save of the game.

“We had a couple chances in the second half, but I think the
second half kind of got us going, it could have gone both way,”
said Coach Harvey.

The Broncos played well defensively in the second half and with
their take one game at a time team mentality, they are sure to
complete the season with a well earned standing.

“Even though we lost today I think that we just need to work
hard this week and go into our thirst for Friday.”
