SigEp, Zeta Tau Alpha capture Greek Olympic titles

By Jonathan Aviles

Chi Omega and Sigma Phi Epsilon have done it once again. Both
Greek organizations won Tug, the main event at Greek Olympics, for
the second year in a row.

Overall, Zeta Tau Alpha won Greek Olympics for the sororities
with 150 points. SigEp repeated as winners of the five-hour event,
also coming in with 150 points.

For Chi Omega, this is their second year shutting out previous
10-year winners Sigma Kappa. As for SigEp, training hard to win tug
has become a strong tradition within the fraternity.

They have won tug six out of the last seven years.

“Overall it was a good day,” said DJ Arellano, former SigEp
president and seventh-year civil engineering student.

“Our chapter did well.Chapters that usually don’t do well did
well so it’s good for competition and the Greek community. [SigEp’s
dominance in tug] comes from a lot of dedication and hard work. It
just proves that we know what we’re doing and that we
dominate.”

Overall, SigEp won every Greek Olympics event besides the secret
event, which was credited to Phi Kappa Tau.

Zeta Tau Alpha won the secret and pyramid events.

Sigma Kappa won the beginning relay while Chi Omega won Tug.

Greek Olympics beganas usual with the long relay event that
tends to bring out the loudest cheers.

The relay begins with each Greek organization having their
fastest runner run the 200-meter sprint.

They the pass off the baton to two of their fellow team members
who then run a three-legged race that spans 100 meters.

After the three-legged duos hobble through their part of the
race, they hand it off to another team member who does 10 turns
around a baseball bat.

The relay continues on to the 10-yard sprint and then the sack
race.

The relay ends with each Greek organization’s team member
running through tires before they cross the finish line.
