The Bronco Leadership Center updated the Cal Poly Pomona’s Time, Place and Manner policy, putting pen to paper on administrative policies, according to BLC Interim Director Jason Mejia Lu.
The updates to the addendum include clearly stating there are no events to be held during zero week, finals week or winter break, as well as stating events cannot be advertised without being approved, according to Lu. Lu announced the changes during the Associated Students Inc. Board of Directors meeting April 16.
“This is largely an administrative update to these policies,” Lu said. “Some of these are things that were happening in departments that were not actually elevated to the policy itself, and that’s what I’m correcting.”
Lu noted that registered student organizations need to officially request at least 10 business days in advance to get approval. Ideally, they’d want the requests to be submitted a month or more in advance, according to Lu.
For example, the fall 2026 semester’s ability to register for events opens in mid-July. If RSOs can get their schedules for events quickly, the process speeds up vastly, only taking around a day for approval.
“We’ve had a lot of issues with people advertising events, which are actually not approved yet,” Lu said. “Imagine someone saying there’s a large-scale concert in two days, and the campus has never actually vetted that. That causes a problem for us.”
Other updates to the addendum include a condensed version of the list of university properties, cutting the table from 197 lines to 21, as well as the official removal of chalking on campus.
The removal follows a trend of other CSU schools withdrawing it from their campuses, especially after the systemwide interim Time, Place and Manner policy changes in August 2024 placed restrictions on chalking, as well as posters, sign and banners, requiring advanced written permission to display them.
Lu also mentioned the number of requests for chalking has plummeted, citing only one request has been submitted during his two and a half years as director, which was rescinded.
Along with the addendum updates, a motion was passed approving $4,285 to the Lost and Found Auction for Cap and Gown grants.
Following that, Jocelyn Miranda was officially voted in as the new officer of public relations after ASI President Amiyah Ellsworth recommended her the week prior.
Upcoming events include the ASI Sustainability Fair April 21, an annual fair that runs in celebration of Earth Day and the alpaca name-reveal party April 24, which will be held during Billy’s Summer Send Off at the Bronco Commons, according to the College of Agriculture Senator and Senator Pro Tempore Madison Navarro.
The next ASI Board of Directors meeting will be held April 23 from 5:30- 7 p.m. in the England Evans room of the BSC.
