Wednesday morning, Sept. 20, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a physical altercation just a couple miles from Cal Poly Pomona at Mt. San Antonio College resulting in a violent stabbing.

Cell phone footage captured one male individual being taken into custody who has been identified as Gavin Flores, who is an 18-year-old West Covina resident according to CBS news.

The incident took place on the second floor of Building 26B where a bloody area can be seen, according to CBS news.

“It made me panic a little bit because my class at Mt. SAC gets out at late at 10 p.m. which means that I’m walking to my car alone which is scary in itself,” said Samantha Howard, a student at both Cal Poly Pomona and Mt. SAC. “Now throwing this in the mix just makes it a little bit more nerve- wracking.”

According to KTLA 5 news, the altercation was over a female student between her current boyfriend and ex, with the ex-boyfriend allegedly being the aggressor. The female’s current boyfriend allegedly stabbed the ex-boyfriend and there was no further threat to the campus, it was an isolated incident.

All individuals involved are students at Mt. SAC according to CBS LA news.

An update to the situation was sent to Mt.SAC students from the college announcing classes in buildings 26A, 26B and 26D were canceled for the remainder of Wednesday. Classes resumed on Thursday.

“It does make me wonder what happened, especially for that incident to occur on a college campus,” said Howard. “What I mean by that is why these people would choose to act out on their emotions on a public campus like that.”

Mt. SAC’s Student Health Center and Employee Counseling Center are offering immediate services for students and employees affected by the day’s incident.
For students, counseling will be available until 7 p.m. in the Student Success Center, third floor, Building 9E-3100.

For employees, counseling will be offered through Tuesday, Sept. 26 with extended hours until 7 p.m. in-person at Building 7-1107 or remotely.
Regular office hours will resume thereafter.

Any witnesses to the altercation on Wednesday morning are asked to call Police and Campus Safety at 909-274-4555.

More information on this incident is still developing.
