Campus mourns student death

The Cal Poly Pomona community suffered the loss of a fellow Bronco, Noah Kendrix, a visual communications design student, last week.

According to an email sent on Feb. 6 from Interim Vice President for Student Affairs Eileen G. Sullivan, a student resident of the University Village was found unresponsive in their unit earlier that day. L.A. County Fire arrived at the scene and determined that the student was deceased. The cause of death has not been released.

Sullivan’s email regarding the student death was sent only to residents of the University Village in order to curtail alarming the residents with the presence of emergency personnel.

“Because the L.A. County Coroner’s Office is responsible for notifying next of kin, and are presently doing so, we are not releasing the name of the student until we are assured contact with the family has been made,” Sullivan said in the statement.

The Poly Post received verification from Bernardo Dargan, interm associate vice president and dean of students, that the student is, in fact, Kendrix.

According to Sullivan, there are no safety concerns and the passing was an isolated incident.

Students in need of grief counseling are encouraged to visit Counseling and Psychological Services, located in Building 66, room 116.

The Poly Post will continue to report more information as it becomes available.
