Cal Poly Pomona’s College of Education and Integrative Studies (CEIS) is now including video in its second season of podcasts.
The podcasts cover a variety of topics together with a variety of people, ranging from faculty to students to alumni.
“This is what the video [has allowed] us to do,” said Jeff Passe, the dean of the CEIS. “Previously … the podcast was recorded in a very small room, so if you wanted to talk to more than one person, it would be really hard to get everybody in the same room … [Now we] have a whole studio.”
Last year, the podcasts were audio only, so this is a new addition. In order to record video, the podcasts are now taped in a huge facility that’s “hidden away” inside the CLA building.
Each episode focuses on a different subject, depending on what is being done in CEIS. Different people are interviewed every week.
“I ask professors to recommend students [to interview] and they usually pick someone who is articulate and would be a good representative for the program,” Passe said.
Passe is also the only host of the podcasts, and hosting is something that he greatly enjoys because of the interaction with people.
An assortment of CPP staff and students have participated in the podcasts, including CEIS student Elizabeth Mason and Assistant Professor Heather Wizikowski, who played big roles in the first episode of this new video season.
Episode one of the second season “discussed the different requirements to get into the program [and] to receive the Special Educators of Excellence in Diverse Settings (SEEDS) scholarship… and where we see the future of special education heading,” said Mason, who is working on her credential in special education.
The podcasts are slowly becoming increasingly popular and are only beneficial to students.
“The podcast is important to get information out about the great things happening in our programs, as well as opportunities the university can offer students,” Wizikowski said.
CEIS releases one podcast every week, with one season every academic year. Each semester will consist of 15 episodes, and the videos can be found on the CEIS website as well as on YouTube. The audio clips can be found through any platform where podcasts can be downloaded, including iTunes and Castbox.
