Carol and Jim Collins established the Carol and James A. Collins Excellence Endowment award for The Collins College of Hospitality Management, donating 10 million dollars.
The endowment will give the opportunity to hospitality students to pursue a higher education when they normally would not.
The couple believes in the ability of higher education to positively impact individuals and the community.
They will also invest in resources for faculty to allow them to educate students about the latest trends in the industry.
The donations allows for some of the visions of the department to come true.
Ideas such as creating a Ph.D. program in hospitality management are now one step close to becoming a reality.
“We are truly humbled by Carol and Jim Collins’ generous support and leadership over the last three decades,” said Dean of The Collins College Lea Dopsonin a statement.
“Their contributions have helped us become the country’s premier hospitality management college.
With the growth of the hospitality industry, innovations will be an important aspect of the industry.
Cal Poly Pomona students will need to be able to learn about such trends to be competitive in the industry.
Carol and Jim have a long history of donating to Cal Poly and the Collins College.
“We are honored to provide a perpetual pathway for educating future leaders,” said Jim Collins in a statement. “Carol and I are proud of the college’s reputation and we are pleased to make such a great investment in our students and faculty.”
