Current broncos, university alumni, family and friends are in for a treat in the next few days, as the 2018 Bronco Spirit Week has begun.
Bronco Spirit Week is held annually during the week leading up to the campus’ Homecoming event.
“Spirit Week is something I look forward to every year because my roommates and I get decked out in our CPP gear and show our school pride,” said third year economics student Janet Chao.
This year, Spirit Week falls on the ninth week of the quarter, which means that students will have many opportunities to relieve stress and enjoy some time away from studying while participating in the various events.
Events throughout the week will include things like a food festival presented by the cultural clubs on campus, Workout Wednesday at the BRIC and Bronco Commons, Bronco Pride Day on Thursday and Bronco Madness on Friday night.
Yesterday there were a few events held by Associated Students, Inc. including one where students could pie the ASI Student Leaders in the face and also receive free slices of apple pie.
One of the university’s main outlets to promote the events is the various Twitter accounts run by students and staff.
Students could tweet questions using the hashtag #piewithASI to get more information on questions that may not have been answered during Pizza with the Presidents earlier in the quarter.
There was also a Spirit Kickoff in University Park yesterday afternoon where DIY stations were set up to personalize CPP shirts, bags, hats and more.
Events later in the week come with incentives like free food and prizes for those in attendance.
Homecoming on Saturday will be the last event of the week and will feature free swag, live musical performances, carnival rides and two baseball games against UC San Diego.
For students who cannot attend all of the events, there are other ways to get involved in the Spirit Week.
If you wear your Cal Poly gear to campus you are eligible to win a free combo at Subway, Qdoba or Round Table Pizza in the BSC sponsored by Foundation Services.
Clubs and organizations can enter to win $500 for earning a certain amount of spirit points toward the group’s participation in the week.
