The Bronco Advising Center is bridging the semester conversion workshops with online guides in a new game for Winter 2018.
From Jan. 16 to March 8, Cal Poly Pomona students will have the opportunity to complete ‘Semester Conversion: The Game’ cards for a chance to win a prize.
The tasks range from a simple follow on social media to finding a Student Success Ambassador to sign the card once a few questions have been answered.
“You could fill out most of the levels at 2 a.m. in bed if you’re wide awake,” said Zoe Lance, communications specialist.
“We’ve never done something like this before and with the incentives presented we’re receiving 1 to 3 completed cards a day.”
The push to complete cards is not only predicative of the success and frequent number of semester conversion workshops, but also the value of the prizes is worth taking the time to fill out the card.
The prizes increase in value with each level. Level 1 prizes include BroncoBucks gift-cards, movie tickets and CPP T-shirts.
The level 2 prizes include CPP swag bags, Speedzone passes and Knott’s Berry Farm tickets.
The desired grand prizes at level 3 are Disneyland tickets, CPP Spring 2018 Parking Permit, diploma frames and Universal Studios Hollywood season passes.
Unfortunately, students can’t win a prize at each level or submit multiple cards.
The card clearly segments the requirements for each level.
Whatever level students reach when submitting their card will determine which raffle they are entered in.
For some students, completing the card is a chance to eliminate excess monetary burdens.
“[A Student Success Ambassador] told me about the game, I like free stuff and parking permits aren’t cheap,” Brittany Swiney, third-year applied math student, said.
“The Student Success Center helps me determine what classes I should take before and after the convergence.”
Semester Conversion: The Game cards can be found in the BAC, Student Success Centers or from the CPP semester conversion website as a downloadable copy.
In the SSC the cards are usually found in close vicinity to the front desk.
Student Success Ambassadors in the SSC are doing an exceptional job at spreading information about the game this quarter.
“In the first week we had 19 people take the cards,” Student Success Ambassador for the Science Department, Jiheng Nie said.
“This week we almost doubled it with 36 recipients.”
The SSC for science and business management had the greatest frequency of students.
