ASI hosts Student Experience, Jan. 18

By Taylor Boomsma

The Marketing, Design and Public Relations (MDPR) department of Associated Students, Inc. will host a free quarterly Student Experience from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18 at the Bronco Student Center in Ursa Minor.

The interactive event, offered for the fifth consecutive quarter, will highlight various departments of Associated Students Inc. and show ways toward student involvement.

ASI representatives will answer questions.

The Student Experience offers information about volunteer opportunities, internships and jobs.

ASI members at various booths will provide information from MDPR, Student Government, Student Activities and Programs and the Bronco Events and Activities Team, among others.

“This year, I’m hoping that The Student Experience can continue to make a difference in our students’ college experience,” said Kimberly Sumida, communications coordinator and founder of The Student Experience.

“My goal through this event is to open up more doors of opportunity for individuals who are looking to find their place on campus.”

The primary purpose is to inform students of the benefits of belonging to a team and being involved in campus life.

The ASI campaign seeks to let students know that “You Belong Here.”

A key component is to promote campus involvement among transfer students.

“A long time ago, I was a transfer student, so I know firsthand how difficult it can be to feel like you belong,” Sumida said.

“It wasn’t until I got involved in ASI as a student that I realized how much of my college experience I was missing out on.”
