Commencement is just over six months away and Cal Poly Pomona students are moving full speed ahead organizing their arrangements for graduation.
The Registrar’s Office is also working on preparing students for graduation with the help and supervision of Transfer and Graduation Advisors (TGA’s).
“I was hoping that this workshop would help organize all the info about graduation for me, and that’s exactly what it did,” John Viboch, a fourth year biotechnology student, said.
TGA’s were the ‘best friends’ of the students in attendance at the ‘Ready, Set, Graduate!’ workshop hosted by the Registrar’s Office due to their extensive knowledge on the graduation processes.
In addition to the graduation process, the workshop concentrated heavily on the differences between graduation and commencement.
The biggest difference between graduation and commencement is this: graduation is when you complete your degree requirements and commencement is when you get to walk across the stage in the formal ceremony.
“One of our biggest goals is to help students understand when they can graduate versus when they will be walking [at commencement],” Kalilah Garlington, a TGA for the College of Science, said. There will be another ‘Ready, Set, Graduate!’ workshop held today during University Hour in the Bronco Student Center’s Ursa Major AB Suite for students who were unable to attend the previous workshops.
