Outsides Lands: A modern day Woodstock

By Yvette Casass

The Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco is one of the most anticipated music festivals of the summer. Outside Lands, which is best described as having a “down to earth atmosphere” and as being a “modern-day-Woodstock”, celebrated their 10th anniversary this past August.

The festival which takes place in Golden Gate park offered a wide range of musical performances, hosting headliners such as Metallica, The Who, Lorde, A Tribe Called Quest, Alt- J, and the Gorillaz. As always there was an act to suit the taste of every music lover.

Guests of Outside Lands enjoyed three days of live music, food, drinks and other forms of entertainment booths.

Along with the four main headlining stages, guests were also offered several amenities such as comedy shows, a mini golf course, a beer garden hosted by the house of Heineken, a rock climbing wall, and they were surrounded by the Art of participating local artists and many more offered activities.

A midst of all the chaos ensuing in the world today and in people’s day to day lives, it’s important for hard working students and for hardworking adults to take a break and to have an outlet in which they can solely enjoy themselves.

While Outside Lands is a highly attended festival for those seeking a good time, it did more than just provide a fun atmosphere for attendees.

Outside Lands provided a carefree element in which the arts and entertainment were the main focus of guests lives for a few days.

There is no better way to unwind than with your favorite music and good company; It’s no wonder music festivals have become the latest craze.

No matter what different view points one may have, no one can disagree that putting on good music is an easy way to lift spirits.

If something as small as a good song can unite people; imagine the lengths to which music festivals go when it comes to uniting people.

There is hardly ever room for disagreements or a sour attitude when being surrounded by good music and good company.

During music festivals everyone is focused on the entertainment and arts, and in moments like these equality is truly represented. People from all walks of life, from all backgrounds, and from all age groups gather to focus on their love of music.

Under the whimsical vibe that Outside Lands gave off, it was hard to have anything but a smile on your face and it was easy to forget about all of your troubles.

Heavy Metal music lovers gathered at Outside Lands for Metallica, Pop-music lovers gathered at the festival as well to see Lorde, Indie-Music lovers gathered to see Empire of The Sun.

These are just a few of the examples of how even the most diverse of music tastes can be brought together under one celebration of music as a whole.

Being part of the music festival culture, specifically Outside Lands, can be a therapeutic experience if you let it be.

Festivals allow you to focus on the fun and on the things you enjoy and appreciate for a few days, and it’s necessary for people to be reminded of the simple joys of life.
