Recently, Cal Poly Pomona’s College of Engineering unveiled renovations for its building. Building 9 features new painted walls, a large metal number outside of one of the entrances and some outdoor tables with umbrellas.
According to the dean of the college, Mahyar Amouzegar, fundraised money allowed the college to make the updates. The money that was not spend on aesthetic updates is being used to renovate the facilities within the building.
With over 34 percent of CPP students enrolled in the college, it is considered one of the most popular on campus and has some of the university’s most prestigious programs.
The college was first established in 1957, nearly 20 years after CPP’s College of Agriculture. The three largest majors in the college are civil, mechanical and electrical engineering. Every year, over 45 percent of its applicants are accepted.
According to CPP’s Office of Admissions and Outreach, one in every 15 engineers in California graduated from the College of Engineering. Over the years, it has also garnered many awards and recognitions.
It ranks as one of the top schools in the country for undergraduate engineering programs and is one of the best public schools for master’s programs.
According to the college’s website, it recently ranked seventh on the U.S News and World Report list of best master’s programs for the university’s master’s in civil engineering program.
Women make up 21 percent of the faculty in the college, the most for any public California university.
