NFL in the City of Angels

By Enrique Cervantes

When you look at the main sports teams in Los Angeles, what do you see?

The Lakers, Clippers, Kings and Dodgers.

What’s missing from the picture? The answer is simple: a pro football team in the City of Angels.

It’s been decades since L.A. had a football team.

I’m not even talking about the Chargers or the Raiders. I mean the Rams with their bright blue and yellow helmets. They were the team that everyone thought we would have.

Man, we missed out on the Greatest Show on Turf.

But now, we have the greatest opportunity to bring a team back.

The rumors have spiraled in every direction. We might be getting two teams by 2015: the Vikings are coming, the Jaguars are coming, the Chargers are coming, the Rams are coming, no team is coming.

We have two stadiums that are itching to be built: one in the City of Industry near Walnut, and another behind the STAPLES Center. That one even has a name: Farmer’s Field.

Count the Vikings and Jaguars out. There are only two teams that have a legitimate shot: the Chargers and the Rams. Both teams are former L.A. teams, and both have real issues that could lead to them coming home.

The Chargers want to renovate their stadium, but San Diego doesn’t want to approve it. Rams owner Stan Kroenke is working on trying to keep his team there, but buying 60 acres of land in L.A. wouldn’t help much either.

When you really sit down and think about it, bringing a pro football team to L.A. would be an amazing thing.

Our Dodgers have postseason issues. Our Lakers are down and our Clippers are up, and our Kings reign supreme in the NHL.

We need that type of dominance in the NFL now.

It would be easy for people in the L.A. area to go to football games, tailgate, and apply for new jobs. Think of all the jobs that it’ll create, and the revenue that it’ll bring to the city and the state.

It’ll be a game changer for everyone. The power shift will change. And if the Rams come to L.A., can you imagine having two Southern California teams?

We can only dream for it, right?

The City of Angels needs a football team.

The Los Angeles Chargers sound pretty goo
