Fatal car fire near campus sparks investigation

Authorities are investigating an incident that occurred Thursday
night near campus involving a severely burned body inside of a car
overtaken by flames.

Whether the deceased person is male or female is still unknown,
according to a press release sent out by the Pomona Police
Department.

At approximately 10:01 p.m., California Highway Patrol responded
at the eastbound 10 freeway onramp located at South Campus
Drive.

LA County Fire Department also responded to the scene,
extinguished the flames and discovered the burned body inside.

The Pomona Police department responded to the scene due to
suspicious circumstances determined by the LA County Arson
Investigators.

A Chevrolet Impala was found burning along the left side of the
onramp with its rear end shifted off the road, according to a San
Gabriel Valley Tribune article.

Cal Poly Pomona University Police were not involved in
responding to the scene and are not currently involved in the
investigation.

The onramp was shutdown Friday morning, but it is open
again.
