UPDATE: Broncos strike first, have tough road ahead

By Erik Carr

Cal Poly Pomona’s reigning NCAA Div. II National Champion men’s
basketball team came into Cameron Indoor Stadium to play reigning
Div. I National Champion Duke University on Thursday night, ending
the half just six points behind Duke.

The Broncos struck first blood when senior forward Tobias Jahn’s
had a lay-up off of the tip-off to start the game.

Although Duke scored immediately after with senior guard Nolan
Smith’s three-pointer, the Broncos struck back with Jahn again
scoring two more points.

Despite Duke’s 11-0 and 14-0 runs, the Broncos put together a
5-0 run to end the first half.

Jahn leads all scorers with 13 points. Junior forward Miles
Plumlee and freshman guard Kyrie Irving, who each have 9 points,
leads Duke.

If there is a weak point for the Broncos, it’s in team fouls.
The Broncos have 10 while the Blue Devils have seven.
