Slime Scales and Smiles

The cold-blooded creatures attracted pet owners and pet
companies from across the country to the annual Fairplex Reptile
Super Show on Jan. 8 and 9.

“I came because I wanted to see the new products for my pet. I
didn’t know there was going to be so much more,” said Garrett
Souza, 16-year-old chameleon a owner from Yorba Linda.

The up-close and personal show had more than 100 booths
displaying various species from Australia, South America, Namibia,
Puerto Rico, the Canary Islands, Botswana and Morocco for patrons
to buy or to admire from afar.

“The poison dart frogs are such interesting animals,” said
Morgan Waites, a third-year animal science student. “I have never
seen one in person before. I didn’t know anyone sold them as pets.
Now I want one.”

For those brave enough to try, they were able to have a
full-grown snake moving up and down their arms and neck or hold a
small baby tortoise in their palm.

Animal experts and representatives from South Orange County,
Arcadia, Los Angeles, San Diego, as well as the Midwestern state of
Kansas and the neighboring state of Utah, came to the Fairplex to
showcase their best products and to share their expertise.

The Reptile Super Show will be back at the Fairplex Aug. 7 and
8, during the LA Pet Fair.
