Rock the Runway, a student-run fashion in association with the
Bronco Athletics Association, was a success with more than 100
student and staff in the audience and about $2,000 raised for the
Make-A-Wish Foundation. “I was so excited,” said Kelleen Chea, a
fourth-year chemistry student and Rock the Runway fashion
coordinator. “After the show, I just walked back stage and started
screaming.”The show featured apparel from seven lines including
IM-KING, Karen Miller and Raw Water, a student-run line by Kaymar
Haye and Efehi Ogbebor.”I really enjoyed participating,” said Nick
Chen, a second-year landscape architecture student and
participating model. “It was my first runway show.”Chen made six
struts down the runway along with several other volunteering
students including fifth-year microbiology student Kat Blanco.
“[The show] went really well,” said Blanco, who showcased five
outfits during the show. “It was an adrenaline rush to walk in
front of my classmates.” Blanco had only participated in one other
runway show in high school. Both models heard about the event
through Facebook. Chea hopes to organize more events on campus,
possibly in conjunction with the Apparel Merchandising and
Management Department. “Look out for an event called ‘The Crowning
of Mister and Miss Cal Poly Pomona,” she said.Models had to
audition during a casting call in which they were required to
submit formal photographs.Bands Far East Movement and New Kingdom
provided live entertainment in between the student models working
the catwalk.
