The Broncos entered the weekend looking to snap the seven-game
losing streak that’s plagued them since their Oct. 3 victory over
Cal State Monterey Bay.
The Broncos fell on Friday to the Toros of Cal State Dominguez
Hills 3-1, but gathered themselves to end the season on a high note
in a 2-0 win over first-place UC San Diego.
On Sunday junior Mary Carroll put the Broncos on the scoreboard
in the 20th minute when sophomore Britany Garrett delivered the
ball to Carroll, who dribbled left and sent the ball past the
outstretched arms of Triton goalkeeper Jessica McGovern.
Solid goalkeeping from junior Amanda Cunningham kept the Tritons
scoreless with four impressive saves, including one sequence where
she defended three straight shots.
Cunningham entered the contest when starter Nakisha Gutierrez
injured her leg just 1:31 into the game.
Carroll struck for the Broncos again when she scored her second
goal of the game with just 24 seconds to play. She received the
ball near midfield and carried the ball down the left sideline
before beating McGovern to her right, securing the victory for the

On Friday Carroll was the lone goal scorer for the Broncos as
she gave her team the 1-0 advantage on a pass from junior Andrea
Salerno, who delivered her team-leading fourth assist.
Jessica Murphy put the Toros on the board just minutes later on
a pass from teammate Yvonne Vasquez, sending the game into the
intermission tied 1-1.
Melanie DeSalvo tacked on a goal to give the Toros a 2-1
advantage in the second half, before Murphy scored a penalty kick
with less than a minute to play.
The Broncos finish the season with a 7-10-2 overall record and
4-9-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The
Tritons finish the regular season 13-3-2 overall and 9-3-2 in the
CCAA, earning them the top seed.
