Many Cal Poly students’ New Year’s resolutions are to find love
in 2007.
Dating assistance for students is easily accessible on the
Internet. Online dating sites such as match.com or eharmony.com can
help people find their new valentine. Because some people find it
difficult to find others with similar interests, specific interest
dating sites provide help for the more than 100 million American
singles, including Cal Poly students.
For those that find particular interest in large bank accounts
can find eligible millionaires on millionaire.com. Doctors,
entrepreneurs, models, engineers, Professional athletes, and even
actresses and actors, populate this dating site.
Artur Torelli, second-year biology student, is not opposed to
these dating sites.
“I think it’s great; it gives other options to people who
haven’t been in the game for a while,” said Torelli. “It’s a great
ice breaker.”
Online dating is often doubted, but can be an effective way of
finding a compatible partner.
Ask the 40 million Americans who are members of an online dating
site in the United States. Thirty- one percent of American adults
say they know someone who has used online dating and 15 percent say
they know someone who has been in a successful relationship from
online dating.
If millionaires are not what someone is looking for, then there
are different choices for each individual’s taste. The internet
offers a surprising amount of broad, often humorous, yet lifestyle
specific sites for finding compatible partners. Gothiclove.com
could be for those people who are dying to find someone.
420dating.com helps adults find that spark of love between one
another, or greenfriends.com can help people connect to save the
earth together.
Larry Costelas, second-year history student has hope for his
friend.
“I have a friend that is on Jdate.com, for Jewish singles, and
it worked for him,” said Costelas. “He has had so many dates, I
think it’s great, but I am going to stick to Myspace.”
Students can type in their interest and find a dating site that
is best for them. Positivesingles.com can help an individual find
someone special that can handle the fact that they have an STD.
Rockabillydate.com can really bring a swing to your step if that is
your interest.
Natalie More, second-year civil engineering student is open to
the thought of online dating.
“My mom’s coworker has been on those sites,” said More. “I have
never done it before but it may be the new way of dating.”
Since an abundance of dating Web sites exist, it is important to
practice good judgment while getting to know and when arranging
meetings with potential partners.
“There could be stalkers on there,” said Joey Dimauro, a
third-year mechanical engineering student. “It is probably best to
just date the old fashioned way, face to face.”
Online dating has become more common, but concerns still
surround it. The best course of action is to be aware of one’s
personal information on the site and always meet in public
places.
