Students danced and sang into the night as they enjoyed live performances to kick off the new school year.

Cal Poly Pomona held the annual BroncoFusion on Friday, Aug. 24 from 7:30 a.m. to midnight.

The day started with different activities throughout campus such as welcome booths and a club fair to introduce the different campus organizations to both incoming and returning students.

BroncoFusion ended with an exciting finale on the Bronco Commons with three different musical performances.

R&B singer Ama Lou and rapper-singer tobi lou started the night off with lively opening acts.

Headlining rapper GoldLink closed the night with a killer performance.

Hailing from Washington, D.C., GoldLink is best known for his 2016 single “Crew” featuring Brent Faiyaz and Shy Glizzy.

“As I was looking around myself, people seemed to be having a good time with friends, even if they didn’t know the music,” third-year business technology and operations management student, Itzel Ayala said.

“Even if people didn’t know one another they bonded over the music by singing and dancing. Personally, I had a great time and would gladly attend again.”

The guests packed their way to the front of the stage, spreading out to the back of the commons.

Students, alumni and guests alike were swaying side-to-side, enjoying the live acts.

Those who knew the words abandoned their inhibitions and sang alongside the performers at the top of their lungs.

“There wasn’t as many people as I was anticipating, but with the right group of people, I had a really fun time,” second-year hospitality management student Sabrina Sicre said.

“The friends I was with were very high energy, but overall I think the vibe was more relaxed; it was more about people trying to get to know one another.”

Friends linked up to dance and sing, and at times the audience jumped up and down letting loose to the music being performed.

The event was also open to non-Bronco students.

Marissa Howdershelt, a second-year biology major from UC Riverside, talked about her experience at BroncoFusion.

“My best friend goes here and had invited me to come out tonight to the event with her and a few of our other friends and we were dancing and laughing all night,” Howdershelt said.

“Also, I am familiar with some of the music, especially the main performer, GoldLink, so I definitely enjoyed his performance but overall it was my first time stepping foot on campus and I enjoyed myself.”

Guests were able to hear the music loud and clear from all areas of the Bronco Commons.

Like years prior, ASI set up this event by gating off the Bronco Commons and setting up a main stage with various light effects.

As the changing colors lit up the stage and the audience, it brought all of the performances to life.

Headliners in the past included Tinashe and RL Grime in 2017, DJ Carnage in 2016 and B.o.B in 2015.

BroncoFusion continues to be a popular event at CPP.

Associated Students, Incorporated had another successful year creating an event for the students to enjoy as they begin their new journey into the fall semester.
