Coachella excitement on campus

By Anthony Carrillo

Just in case you have been off social media for the past week, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2018 lineup has been released.

Students are ready to kick off the winter quarter with one of the biggest concerts of the year.

If you’re contemplating attending, the headliners will be sure to get your attention.

Headliners include The Weeknd, Beyonce and Eminem.

This lineup is solid from top to bottom.

And even though the price is high for Coachella, it is these smaller names that will have us staring at our computers hoping to get a ticket.

The only woman signed to the juggernaut label Top Dawg Entertainment, SZA released her debut album, CTRL, this past year.

This album found success with fans and critics alike, and this even earned herself the honor of being the highest nominated female artist in the upcoming Grammy Awards.

Another benefit to watching a SZA’s set is the potential of people she can bring out because she has songs featuring Kendrick Lamar, Isiah Rashad, Schoolboy Q, Travis Scott and Chance the Rapper.

The Neighbourhood ” Moody music lovers rejoice.

In a hip-hop heavy lineup, The Neighbourhood is a refreshing change of pace.

Best known for their songs Sweater Weather and Afraid this alternative band is guaranteed to have you singing along as you rock side-to-side with the rest of the crowd.

Post has gained considerable success over the past three years despite only releasing one studio album.

This artist has gone from one-hit wonder to a well-rounded musician.

For those who only know Post Malone for his hit song, White Iverson, you may be taken back if you see him live.

Post has the musical arsenal to go from a large beat paired with catchy rhymes straight into an acoustic guitar with lyrics about how he had his heart broken.

The self-proclaimed “best boy band since one direction” collective of thirteen members has been making waves in the hip-hop community as they released three well received albums in the past six months.

If you find yourself in the middle of the crowd when this group hits the stage you need to be ready to be tossed around the mosh pit.

Their fan base is young, rowdy and willing to throw their bodies at each other in support of their favorite boyband.

Adorn, All I Want Is You, Sky Walker and Lotus Flower Bomb are just some of the hit songs that Miguel could perform at his set.

Miguel is a musician that can be enjoyed equally from the front as well as the back row.

Singing along to his songs as you dance with your friends will be a highlight of your Coachella year.

Like most other artists, you can expect Miguel to bring out some of his friends to join him on stage such as J Cole, Mac Miller, Schoolboy Q and A$AP Rocky.

Best known for his song Riptide, this artist is bringing the indie to Coachella this year.

Vance Joy is an Australian artist who will be equipped on stage with either a guitar or ukulele.

After bouncing amongst rowdy crowds for two days Vance is perfect for a relaxing day three to just lay a blanket and enjoy good music with better people.
