ASI to host back-to-back events

As the end of the quarter approaches, Associated Students, Inc. and the Bronco Events and Activities Team have planned two fun-filled events for Cal Poly Pomona students to take a break from the books and relieve some stress right before finals week.

The first event, BEAT Around the BRIC, will be on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex pool. The night will consist of free giveaways, food, drinks and a dance party.

BEAT Programing Chair and second-year biology student, Iram Khajawall, explained why the event is being held.

“It’s supposed to be a very chill event,” said Khajawall. “There will be a lot of music and dancing. It’s the week before the finals and students are really stressed out, so this event is a great way for them to relieve all of their stress and get involved together.”

A disco dance floor will be set up with student disc jockeys Subhertz, Ocean Roulette and Scenic.

Andrew Densmore, a fifth-year computer information systems student, is the music chair for BEAT and helped plan BEAT Around the BRIC.

“We are combining fun filled activities and music together,” said Densmore. “We’ve never done a programming event at the pool or the BRIC per se, so we wanted to see how that would turn out. During BroncoFusion, we had a pool party, and it was very popular. A lot of people were drawn to the event. It’s really about bringing all of those elements together.”

BEAT Around the BRIC is open to all CPP students. If a student does not have a membership with the BRIC, there will be an alternate entrance with an ID check.

One day after Beat Around the BRIC is CPP’s quarterly Midnight Madness. The event will be held on Friday from 10 p.m. to midnight. This quarter’s Midnight Madness has a superstitious Friday the 13th theme; “Your Luck Will Soon Change” is the motto of the night.

Sydney Martinez, a second-year liberal studies student, helped coordinate Midnight Madness.

“Midnight Madness is always held on the Friday before finals week,” said Martinez. “It’s a night where people come and de-stress from studying for finals and getting last minute projects in. Having this event is about letting people get comfortable, relax and take a breather.”

There will be music, free food and tons of activities to participate in.

“We have a Lucky Bamboo DIY project,” said Martinez. “There will be a dreamcatcher activity where you can create your own dreamcatcher. There will be a dance floor and DJ performers deejaying all night, a Dance Dance Revolution competition, a [psychic] hand [and] card reader and ouija boards.”

Khajawall is excited for other CPP students to come to Midnight Madness.

“There are so many activities to choose from at Midnight Madness,” said Khajawall. “I think students will have to come and decide what the highlight of the night is.”
