Looking ahead in music

By Cecily Arambula

Last year was a pretty mediocre year for music. But there are
some new releases coming up this year that I am anxiously

In order, here is the music I am most looking forward to hearing
in 2012.

Esperanza Spalding – “Radio Music Society”

Last year, she won Best New Artist at the Grammy’s. She’s a
talented and seriously underestimated musician and I can’t wait to
hear more of her coffee house vibes.

Jay-Z – To be announced

I’m only excited for this release because since the birth of his
daughter, Jay-Z has vowed to stop using the word “bitch.” It will
be interesting to hear what he uses in place of it on any track he
releases in the future. I’m also hoping his 2012 release won’t

a “Watch the Throne Part 2.” Part one was disappointing enough.

Mumford and Sons – To be announced

I’m hoping my favorite artists of last year bring more to the
table before their 15 minutes are up.

Nicki Minaj – “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded”

The majority of her debut, “Pink Friday” was cute, with the
exception of “Roman’s Revenge.” Which is why I’m so excited for
“Roman Reloaded.” Perhaps on this release, Minaj will give us a
little less “Pink Friday” and a little more Roman, like what we
heard on her

verse in “Monster.”

The Killers – To be announced

I have loved everything The Killers have released so far.
There’s really no reason to not be excited about the band coming
back together.

The next big thing – Something New

So this one isn’t an actual artist. But I’m waiting for the next
big thing to take over the music world and give us anything besides
Rihanna and Gaga.

No Doubt – To be announced

It has been over ten years since “Rock Steady” was released.
That’s a long time to wait for an album from my absolute favorite

The quartet has been keeping the anticipation alive since its
2009 summer tour that was said to inspire the band to record
another album. I have been anxiously following the band on Twitter
for at least a sample, sneak peek or possible release date. But all

have received is song titles. I’ve been waiting for this album
since I was 11 years old. The anticipation for this one is at its
peak. Although none of the band members have promised an album
release date, I’m feeling like 2012 is the year.
