As the year comes to an end, many students on campus received their music wrap-ups from their chosen digital media platforms. From their top artist of the year to their most played album of the year, students had the opportunity to share the music that carried them throughout the year as well as the tunes that they fell in love with along the way.
“The most streamed artist I have for this year is Bad Bunny. He honestly was behind my most played song too, with ‘A Tu Merced.’ I just discovered him actually, but for me I’ve been playing him a lot this year, more so because of his lyrics. The sound of his music hits too, I just feel connected to his music. He’s an artist I feel like I am always going to relate to.”
“For sure Taylor Swift, she just has so many different albums out to listen to. I have been playing her since I was like twelve and I still enjoy her. Her album this year was pretty good too, ‘Midnights.’ I like her song with Lana Del Rey and ‘Lavender Haze’ on that album. Actually, ‘Midnights’ was my top album too, so yeah Taylor Swift all around.”
“I think my most played album for this year is ‘D-Day’ by Dreamville. They have this one song called ‘Stick’ on there that goes pretty crazy. The album just has a good variety of sound, and the different artist on there all sounded well. I can’t wait until they go on tour, I’m trying to see J. Cole and JID in person. JID is coming to LA in January, so I’m for sure going to that. But hopefully I catch all of them at Rolling Loud in March.”
“My most streamed artist this year was Drake, I play his last album, ‘Her Loss’ a lot. I enjoy most of the beats and Drake’s flow on a few songs too. I love ‘Knife Talk’ off his 2021 album, that was my most played song for this year. I love ‘Jimmy Cooks’ too, that Drake and 21 (Savage) combo is something I love, I’m glad they dropped that album together.”
“My top two artists for this year were Justin Bieber and Kendrick Lamar, but I honestly like Kendrick more. My top song though is from A$AP Rocky, with ‘Praise the Lord.’ I love that song; you can play it anywhere and just vibe out to it. I also play ‘Ghost’ and ‘As I am’ from Justin’s ‘Justice’ album a lot, can’t sleep on Justin.”
“My top artist for this year was Paramore and my most streamed song was ‘Fireflies.’ That song is just something I always enjoyed listening to. But lately, I have been playing Japanese artists, they are not on my list, but I play them after work to help me destress.”
“My most played album for this year is probably the Billie Eilish album, I love her a lot. All the songs from the album are just so good … but my favorites are probably ‘Happier Than Ever’ and the remix by ‘ASTN,’ it is a little slower but it’s such a vibe to me. For the artist, it is probably Dominic Fike, I love their songs ‘Chicken Tenders’ and ‘Babydoll.’”
“The Weeknd, his genre is diverse, he has a lot of technical aspects to his music that I enjoy often. My favorite song is probably ‘Sacrifice,’ I love the upbeat vibe, the ‘80s theme for the album was pretty great. He’s an amazing performer too, I went to both the Vegas and LA shows, the environment was great. I had floor seats, so I enjoyed myself both times.”
“My most played album this year was ‘Certified Lover Boy’ from Drake. I really love the songs ‘Race My Mind’ and ‘Get Along Better.’ Drake was my most played artist too, I go through different phases when it comes to music. For me, it depends on how I feel, and Drake is good at explaining so many of his emotions through his songs. I have not got to his latest albums just yet, but I will get on that soon.”
