KKPsi’s Spooktacular fundraiser gets funky

Kappa Kappa Psi’s (KKPsi) Nu Sigma chapter, a national  musical band service fraternity at Cal Poly Pomona held its “Spooktacular Fundraiser” at 6 p.m.,  Oct. 25 at the Claremont City Hall patio.

The goal of the fundraiser was to raise money for mouthpieces, snacks and general necessities for the band members.

People walking up and down the streets of Claremont on the busy Friday night stopped to enjoy the music and enthusiasm coming from the band.

They played classic throwback songs such as “Hey Baby,” “Get Lucky” and “Stacy’s Mom” dressed in their spooky Halloween costumes.

The band danced around, chanted and clapped to get the crowd involved so more people would stop to listen.

As people were passing toward the end of the fundraiser, crowd members would yell “You guys are awesome!” and “That was amazing!” engaging with the band.

Jessie Musacchio, a fourth-year liberal studies student, was out getting ice cream when she heard the music playing from a distance and decided to go listen.

“It was really nice and honestly put me in a good mood. Listening to them play and watching how much fun they were having made it so enjoyable,” Musacchio said.

According to the myBAR website, the primary focus of the fraternity is to aid directors of bands in developing leadership skills and enthusiasm for its members.

“Our goals are to provide the band not only with organized and concentrated service activities, but to give our membership valid and wholesome experiences in organization, leadership and social contacts.”

CeeCee Cade, a fifth-year food science and technology student and president of the organization, plays the flute in the band and feels compelled to continue with music for as long as she can.

She is a part of the founding class of the organization, that began in 2017 and has been working since to achieve its goals and follow its motto: “Strive for the highest.”

“We do this through service, leadership and mentorship. We (do) fundraisers like this where we showcase all of the different brothers in our chapter,” Cade said.

The organization will be having more fundraisers and performances throughout the year.  Follow them on Instagram for more information @kkpsi.nu.sigma.
