Sit back and relax with Girl Hazel

The band Girl Hazel got groovy at CPP’s University Park on Thursday, May 2, just in time to ease the pre-finals madness.

The event was put together by Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) for another Feel the BEAT (Bronco Events and Activities Team) event.

Students gathered around to watch the band as they laid in a comfortable setting of mini couches and blankets on the ground with tents shading them.

The event included free slices of pizza and boba samples to enjoy while listening to the music.

The band had an indie feel that attracted students to come and watch them play.

“I just like local bands, and I like listening to music,” said Daniel Cisneros, a fourth-year sociology major. “So I thought it would be cool to check it out.”

The band had a mixture of song choices, all written originally by band members.

One was called “Ohio.”

They had a certain humor that the crowd seemed to enjoy. Everyone sat together and relaxed, becoming one as they vibed off of the music together.

With finals coming up, it may have been just what some students needed.

Live music does something for the soul and it was a nice day out.

Guitar player Mirza Sheriff thought the performance went well. This was only the band’s third gig, but the members thought the environment was great and perfect for the day.

“I felt like pretty solid, we were all pretty good and held it together,” Sheriff said.

ASI works behind the scenes for many campus events such as these.

Kevin Baghdassarian, a fifth-year computer science major, rather enjoys doing the work.

“I enjoy being a part of the set-up and take down process and just watching the whole thing come together,” Baghdassarian said.

Though the show did not last long, it was a treat to our campus for those both watching the concert and for those simply passing by to “Feel the BEAT” on a sunny midday.

It is definitely something to consider checking out in the future.
