Shouts of Loteria, laughter and cheering filled the game room Thursday.

The event hosted by Hermanas Unidas in collaboration with the Cesar E. Chavez Center for Higher Education, began with free snacks, Mexican candy, and aguas frescas.

Games room attendant and psychology major student Elijah Flores was pleased with the turnout of the event.

“Most of our seats were filled with more than 120 students,” said Flores.

The night consisted of 12 rounds of Loteria, each lasting roughly 10 minutes with four to five winners.

Each time someone won a game, he or she would scream “loteria” and run to the stage to collect their prize.

Prizes of the night included t- shirts with the loteria marketing printed on them as well as small tote bags.

Then, Cesar Chavez gave the winners miniature versions of Loteria, a larger sized tote bag and a Chancla shirt.

This event was a great opportunity for students to take a study break before finals. It’s a good way to bond with other students and an exciting way to promote the Hispanic culture.

Diana Serrano, a fourth year and accounting major student, attended loteria night for the first time.

“I liked how it was an event that build community, and met other students who were interested in learning about the Latino culture,” said Serrano.

For more information, visit the games room at the BSC. BSC Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
